Soft proofing is used to simulate on your display what your print may look like. Soft proofing should only be used by someone very familiar with print making. This may help you adjust files to more closely match our print output, similar to what you see on your color managed display during file preparation. Although soft proofing is not perfect nor does it gaurantee color output exactly like your display, it does give you some information in preparing your print file. In the end when producing a large print a better approach is to order a 5"x7" test print to verify your file preparation when ordering your larger print. This gives you the opportunity to make an adjustment before ordering your large print.
